Imagine a modern day Taxi Driver (it's meant to be a satire) but our protagonist, Damani is an utterly exhausted and exploited queer woman of color rideshare driver barely making ends meet, trying to take care of her ailing mother, while ignoring the pain of her father's recent death. A lovely, vulnerable, romantic and at times heartbreaking reading experience. I fell hard for the swoony bartender with the tragic look in her eye making magical cocktails and drawing everyone's attention.
I loved all the descriptions of the fine dining and restaurant culture. “This book is like a beautiful dream in a gorgeous restaurant (set in San Francisco) with an alluring and mysterious cast of characters that I wanted to know everything about. Reading this book was like pulling up to shore on a foggy day, peering through the mist.
